First it was ketchup is a vegetable, now pizza is…
Congress pushes to classify pizza as a ‘vegetable’
by Ethan A. Huff, staff writer
(NaturalNews) In an absurd attempt to fight back at federal regulations that greatly limit the amount of junk food that can be served as part of government-funded school lunch programs, Congress has proposed a new spending bill that classifies pizza as a “vegetable.” Reports indicate that the bill would allow for just two tablespoons of tomato paste to be considered a serving of vegetables.
Recommendations made by the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine back in 2009 for reforming subsidized school lunch programs include reducing the use of starchy vegetables like potatoes and corn to just two days a week, cutting sodium use, and promoting the use of whole grains. But the new Congressional bill, which is alleged to be a product of the frozen food industry lobby, seeks to undo these changes.
Proponents of the bill in Congress say it will “prevent overly burdensome and costly regulations and provide greater flexibility for local school districts to improve the nutritional quality of meals.” But opponents insist that the legislation is a thinly-veiled attempt at satisfying the demands of special interest groups rather than promoting better nutrition for public school children.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), a group that supports the Obama Administration’s initial lunchroom reform measures, has expressed vehement opposition to the Congressional bill. CSPI’s Nutrition Policy Director Margo G. Wootan recently wrote that the legislation, if passed, “may go down in nutritional history as a bigger blunder than when the Reagan Administration tried (but failed) to credit ketchup as a vegetable in the school lunch program.”
First off, the kind of pizza served in most school lunchrooms can hardly be considered a health food in any way, shape, or form. From the refined, brominated white flour-based dough to the recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) laden cheese, this processed food product is a detriment to the health of school children. Even the sauce used on most processed pizzas contains chemical additives and preservatives, as well as potential pesticide residues from conventional tomatoes.
While the original Obama Administration proposal represents an attempt at improving lunchroom food quality, it is inadequate at promoting real nutrition. Once the genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), refined sugars, processed flours, unhealthy GM oils, chemical salt additives, and preservatives are removed from the menu, then we can truly begin a discussion on better health through nutrition.

Today it is a problem to know what exactly is in our restaurant food. The worst tend to be chain restaurants who have perfected unhealthy addictive food into an art and science. But even the well meaning local independent place may be putting MSG and other unhealthy ingredients into its food, simply because it is all over the place and factory made foods (that so many restaurants use) usually are loaded with this junk.
Yet more shenanigans at the TSA
TSA refuses to fulfill promise to conduct independent safety investigation of naked body scanners
by Jonathan Benson, staff writer
(NaturalNews) Not even a month after promising to conduct a legitimate, independent study on the safety of the illegal naked body scanners used in airports across the US, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Administrator John Pistole is now saying that such a measure is unnecessary, and that it may not happen after all.
ProPublica reports that, despite myriad evidence that the privacy-invading machines can emit high levels of deadly ionizing radiation, Pistole has presented more rehashed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data as “evidence” that the machines are safe — and he is actually purporting that this biased data is sufficient to verify the machines’ safety.
“My strong belief is those types of machines are still completely safe,” said Pistole at a recent hearing of the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. “If the determination is that this IG (inspector general) study is not sufficient, then I will look at still yet another additional study.”
Unfortunately for Pistole and his cronies at DHS and TSA, having a “strong belief” about something does not make it true. And Pistole’s repeated avoidance of allowing a real investigation into the safety of naked body scanners clearly shows that he and his corrupt agency have something to hide from the public.
Pistole’s use of the words “still yet another additional study” basically insinuates that existing studies have already verified the safety of backscatter naked body scanners — but they definitely have not. In fact, the supposed “safety data” that the TSA has been relying on to assert the safety of the machines was exposed as fraudulent earlier this year (http://www.naturalnews.com/032425_a…).
Not only was the data flawed, but the study was conducted in secret by unnamed scientists, and by the company that makes the machines, Rapiscan Systems. The safety tests also did not even involve the actual machines used at airports — they involved phony “mock-up” machines made of random spare parts at the company’s manufacturing unit.
That Pistole would even suggest that existing “safety” studies conducted in this manner are legitimate is an insult to the intelligence of every American. And yet millions of Americans continue to comply with TSA’s unconstitutional use of these deadly machines, and willfully subject their bodies to blasts of carcinogenic ionizing radiation every day.

Thought for the Day
In this debate a couple of years ago guess who come across as prescient and who is a status quo fool? Looking back we can tell who got it right who was completely myopic in dealing with the Euro crisis.
Even Chomsky, the great leftist admits that Ron Paul is right
I always thought that the phrase “They hate us for our freedoms.” was a far too simplistic and flippant phrase dreamed up by a PR department to sell to the public. Muslims hate us for many reasons beyond just freedom envy.
