The US Justice Department

Obama who pedged to have the most open and transparent administration in history now has its Justice Department asking to gut the Freedom of Information Act.  This is further ironic because the FOIA was a result of the Democratic reforms of the left implemented after the Nixon scandals to provide cleaner more accountable government.  Now it has come full circle and Obama is on the side of Nixon.

Justice Department seeks to pass rule allowing government officials to lie in response to FOIA requests

(NaturalNews) A powerful tool that allows ordinary citizens to obtain crucial information from government archives, the US Department of State (DOA) Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is under attack. The Daily Caller reports that the US Justice Department wants to revise the law to allow government officials to lie about, or conceal the very existence of, records that it does not wish to release publicly.

The Justice Department claims that the law needs to be revised to protect sensitive information from being released. But current FOIA provisions already exempt certain information from having to be supplied, as long as those requesting the information are given a proper explanation as to why it cannot be released.

But the new rule would allow officials to not only conceal the information, but also to blatantly lie about it. In other words, when the federal government wants to keep certain dirty little secrets under wraps, even “secrets” not protected by the exemption, it will simply be able to tell those requesting such information that it does not exist.

“(The rule) will dramatically undermine government integrity by allowing a law designed to provide public access to government information to be twisted to permit federal law enforcement agencies to actively lie to the American people,” said the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), and OpenTheGovernment.org, in a joint public statement (http://www.openthegovernment.org/si…).

FOIA requests, of course, have been crucial in exposing all kinds of government corruption. A FOIA request exposed US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano as a liar concerning the safety of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) naked body scanners, for instance (http://www.naturalnews.com/032839_b…).

“The problem is, if you’re a FOIA requester and the agency says they don’t have the records, you have no reason to doubt that,” said CREW chief counsel Anne Weismann concerning the proposal. “But if they cite an exemption, you have the option to sue.”

The proposed FOIA revisions were first published back in March, and the Justice Department began taking public comments on them for a short period of time. Due to massive public backlash, the agency is once again accepting comments. You can submit your own comments by contacting:

In further information the Justice Department is suing South Carolina for actually doing something about our out of control immigration situation.  It is not surprising but sad that the Federal government is actually trying to hinder any attempt to get a handle on immigration.

So why does the Obama administration want to have out of control immigration?  In part it is ideological, since the left loves nothing more than to see the browning of America so that whites can finally become a repressed minority.  But beyond that the left likes to have mass immigration from poor countries because the poor tend to vote left so we need to grow the underclass.  I also see this in Spain with our Socialist government.

The Battle of Self Reliance

The government is no longer functioning adequately.

We can’t enforce our immigration laws or protect our borders. It has also been painfully obvious for decades that Social Security and Medicare desperately needed reforms, yet nothing was done.

Although one of the irrefutable roles of government is to build and maintain the infrastructure, our roads and bridges are in an appalling state of disrepair, despite the fact that spending at all levels of government has never been higher.

The US has more fossil fuel natural resources than any other country in the world yet we import more than 60 percent of our oil. The list goes on and on.

The truth is that there has been political consensus on very little over the last several decades. Instead of making hard choices about how to allocate our resources, the government has simply elected to appease everyone and just print money. (We can have a massive entitlement state and wage war whenever we want and achieve strong economic growth ect.).

But, the timeline on this way of doing things is running out as our debt and deficits are ballooning to unsustainable levels.

Quite simply, the country must make a choice. And this choice hinges the question of self reliance. Is this a country primarily of free individuals that fend for themselves or mostly a group of people dependent on the government?

I believe in helping people to help themselves. But, it seems increasingly obvious that this administration is about helping people rely on the government instead. For example, it supports expansion of food stamps and unemployment benefits while shunning policies that would promote private sector employment.

The old formula was that the overwhelming majority of Americans can find work and make a living without help from the government. But, for those who can’t support themselves, for whatever reason, there is a government backstop. The needy could get a helping hand and people who falter temporarily can get help to get back on their feet.

While the government provided a safety net, the ideal was that the more people who could provide for themselves without any government assistance the better. It is precisely this notion that is under assault.

Promoting self interest rather than the country’s best interests, many liberals have been actively engaged in deliberately swelling the ranks of the non self reliant. Indeed, politicians have been absolutely training people to look to the government first to solve their problems. These politicians are purposely attempting to move people from the self reliant side of the ledger to the non self reliant side of the ledger.

The idea is that by increasing the ranks of the dependent, a critical mass will be tipped. The non self reliant will outnumber the self reliant and vote in big government liberals who will “fundamentally change” this country to a big government entitlement state that bears little resemblance to the America of our past.

Perhaps their motives are noble, to help those who can’t help themselves. But, by eagerly helping those who can help themselves, these politicians are transforming this country.

We are at the tipping point. The next election will likely decide what kind of nation we will be in the future. The decision the country makes next year is the ultimate catalyst for the markets. Investment decisions must be made with this understanding and, depending on the results, the market will have vastly different alternative futures.

The left especially wants not just a large and growing under class, but also a totally dependant underclass unable to exist without endless government largesse.  That way the poor will think twice before they vote out a socialist party which might take away their government funded goodies.  What a lot of poor people don´t realize is that so many of these programs weaken the poor and the general economy.  Which is better for the poor: to have a job and some sense of dignity and self discipline, or to be idle all day depending on government handouts, because government policies have increased unemployment while reducing the incentive to work?
